New Year, New Organized You

Let’s kick off the new year with a clean an organized space!

One of the biggest struggles I’ve had as a creative is staying organized and keeping my sewing/ crafting space tidy. If you follow me on INSTAGRAM, I always share how I continuously work on top of my mess. LOL! I always feel like I don’t have time to clean until I can long manage it anymore.

My messiest space in my entire room is the drawers in my desk. It is absolutely horrible. LOL! In my defense..LOL!…As someone that sews, I have so many tiny knick knacks and tools that I had no clue how to keep under control and keep them organized. Its just ALOT of stuff. Too much stuff if you ask me. I have three drawers, as you can see below, and each one is filled to the brim with STUFF. I was pretty anxious at the start of tackling this project but it had to be done.

Here are some tips to tackling such a stressful project:

  1. One drawer at a time, separate or group similar things together.

  2. Throw things away that you never reach for.

  3. Take your time and split this task up into a few days. Breaks are necessary.

Once I cleaned out my desk drawers and figured out what I was going to keep, I went to my local JOANN STORE for some super fun storage ideas. And oh my goodness! All of my problems were resolved. The storage options were inexpensive and I loved that I was able to get creative on how to store specific items that I had. I went back and for to my local JOANN STORE for a few days until I got everything I needed for what I had. Also, I couldn’t be more happier with how everything turned out!

As you can see above, my drawers are white and I thought it would super awesome to make organization fun by adding a pop of color to my desk drawers. All of my materials were purchased at JOANN Stores. Here is how I created this style or organization:

MATERIALS

Foam Board
Glitter Scrapbook Paper
Hot Glue
Knife/ Blade
Ruler

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Clean out drawer and organize your goodies into groups

  2. Figure out what sections you want in your drawer

  3. Measure drawer. Length and width.

  4. Cut out base base of your drawer layout with your foam board

  5. Measure out the sections that you want in your drawer and cut out the foam board for those pieces as well.

  6. If you are interested and covering your on board with scrapbook paper, start with the base first and then start covering your sectioned pieces.

  7. Hot glue all of your peices together.

  8. Insert into drawer and organize your things.

Although I had a section cut out for my small tools, I really didn’t like how scattered it looked against my beautiful sectioned out drawers, so I decided that these super awesome colorful boxes would do the trick. The boxes below can be found at JOANN STORES and they are extremely inexpensive.
