Tie Dye Picnic Blanket

Picnic’s are one of my all time favorite things to do with my family. Now that the weather is finally warmer, we can go for picnics at our local parks, or just in our own backyard.  I have been looking for that perfect blanket to take with us on our picnic dates, but I haven’t found anything I was in love with.  I needed an Insta-worthy blanket to go along with my gorgeous charcuterie board, girl you know!  Cue my DIY skills...I had to make one!

I wanted to attempt an adult version of tie dye for this project. I chose colors I thought would compliment each other well.  I HIGHLY recommend you avoid mixing yellow and purple, blue and orange, and red and green.  Those combinations will give you some realllllly ugly brown tones you definitely do not want! Recently, I’ve seen a lot of round picnic blankets that I’ve liked, so I decided to go with that shape.  After adding all of the finishing touches, I can say I’m super excited to use this! Can’t wait to picnic in style!

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Lay out your fabric and draw your desired shape.  For circles, fold your fabric in half and draw the largest half circle you can fit.

  2. Pin and sew the two circle halves together.

  3. Wash and dry your fabric to get rid of any chemicals on the fabric so the dye can adhere easier.

  4. Take the towel and pinch the center and then twist in a clockwise direction.

  5. Tie rubber bands around the towel to hold it in it’s twisted shape.

  6. Submerge the towel in hot water.

  7. Follow tie dye box instructions outside or in a place that the dye won’t ruin anything.

  8. After everything is dry adhere your trim around the edges using fabric glue.

  9. Go enjoy your picnic blanket!
