Celebration of Black Beauty

As a black a creative on social media, I know that I’m one of the very few that gets the privilege of sharing my art for a living. Black culture inspires the world although our voices in it’s rawest form isn’t always viewed or received in a positive light. Black culture impacts the way that I create and the way that I share my work. My work presents as bold, fearless, powerful, creative, and inspiring.

As a black woman, my culture inspires the colors that I choose that make my brown skin look extra beautiful. My culture inspires the designs that I create because they display a level of confidence that as a black woman, I naturally exude.  My culture also inspires the way that I present myself because I know the importance of being a positive influence for young people that need to see representation of themselves in a positive light.

Style

I love the versatility of this skirt. I wanted to style it in a juxtaposed way. It’s already expected to see this skirt styled will a button up or fitted top with pretty heels, but I thought it’d be cool if I wore it with a baggy cropped black hoodie. It adds a little street style to the look without doing  too much. The black strappy heels adds an unexpected sexiness to the look.

How it’s Made

For the skirt, I created a circle skirt with pockets. No pattern needed. You can easily find a circle skirt calculator and tutorials online to create a simple skirt.

To create the hoodie, I purchased a plain black hoodie from Joann Stores and cut half of the bodice off and resewed the bottom band back on. Pretty simple. Comment below if you’d like for me to show you how.
