Supplies You’ll Need

  • Cotton canvas fabric (main body)

  • Contrasting cotton canvas (bottom + handles)

  • Coordinating thread

  • Fabric scissors or rotary cutter

  • Sewing machine

  • Pins or clips

  • Fabric marking pen

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Cut Your Pieces

  • Main Body (Cut 2) → 4.25" wide × 2.25" tall (plain rectangle)

  • Contrast Bottom (Cut 2) → 4.25" wide × 2.75" tall, with 0.75" squares cut out of both bottom corners

  • Handles (Cut 2) → 8.5" long × 1.5" wide (fold into fourths, then topstitch)

2. Make the Handles

  • Fold each handle strip lengthwise in fourths (like bias tape).

  • Press and topstitch along both long edges.

3. Attach the Handles

  • Place handles on the right side of each body piece. Extend them about 1/4" past the top edge.

  • Pin in place about 1" from each side edge.

  • Stitch the handles down from the bottom edge of the body up to the top edge, securing both sides of each handle.

4. Attach the Contrast Bottom

  • Pin the contrast bottom strip to the bottom edge of a body piece, right sides together.

  • Sew across with a 1/4" seam allowance.

  • Flip the bottom down and press.

  • Sew a topstitch along the seam for a clean, finished look.

  • Repeat with the second body piece.

5. Sew the Sides and Bottom

  • Place both body pieces right sides together.

  • Sew down the two side edges and across the bottom, using a 1/4" seam allowance.

6. Shape the Corners

  • With the 1" squares already cut out, pinch each bottom corner so the side seam and bottom seam align.

  • Stitch straight across with a 1/4" seam allowance to form boxed corners.

7. Finish the Top Edge

  • Fold the raw top edge under 1/4", press, then fold under another 1/4".

  • Stitch all the way around for a neat hem.

8. Turn & Press

  • Turn your tote right side out.

  • Press well to shape, and your Mini Market Tote Bag Charm is complete!
